Dear
Friend
—
Long Beach has elected a new Mayor, and I want to congratulate
Vice-Mayor Rex Richardson for his strong win in this race. Rex has
been an incredible leader and partner on the City Council, and I am
confident that he will continue the progress that we have made over
the last 8 years. He is ready from day one to take on our city’s
greatest challenges.
Rex is also making history. He will be our first Black Mayor. For
that, I am deeply proud of him and of our community. I look forward to
beginning the transition process with him as he prepares to assume
office on December 20.
I also want to thank Councilwoman Suzie Price for her commitment to
our city and her district. She is a great representative and a leader
in our community. She loves Long Beach and ran a strong, spirited
campaign. I know she will continue to make a positive impact in the
years ahead.
Long Beach is also gaining some amazing new members of our City
Council. A huge congrats to Kristina Duggan in District 3 and Dr. Joni
Ricks-Oddie in District 9. These women will bring their incredible
talents and unique perspectives to the City Council. And, after all
the votes are counted, I’m optimistic that Megan Kerr will be elected
to District 5. I know each of these new members — with their diverse
backgrounds and experiences — will continue to make Long Beach a
stronger and better city.
Thank you as well to voters across Long Beach for approving each of
our proposed ballot measures. These include the consolidation of
election dates, strengthening police oversight, and creating a new
public utilities department.
Finally, I want to thank each of you for your support over these
last 8 years. It’s been an honor to help lead our community and I look
forward to serving as your next representative in the United States
Congress. Long Beach will always be my home.
I look forward to the next five weeks as your Mayor and the great
things to come for our city.
Thank you again, and Go Long Beach!
Mayor Robert Garcia
