Deadline Near for Innovations Funds Proposals
Submit your proposals by tonight (Nov. 15) at 10 p.m. ET for the 2022 Health Equity Innovations Fund. The AARP Center for Health Equity Through Nursing and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action seek to fund projects designed to eliminate structural inequities within the nursing profession, health systems, or community.

Nurses Show Up for Their Community Through Barbershop Health Talks
When they&rsquo;re not working their hospital jobs, write Aron King, MS, RN, and Carter Todd, MS, MBA, RN, they are building trust in their communities through Barbershop Health Talks. &ldquo;Providing health education by showing up for people in trusted environments,&rdquo; they write, &ldquo;is a proven and effective way to achieve health equity.&rdquo; Their barbershop outreach has gone online, too.

At AAN Meeting, Talks of Challenges Inspiring Positive Action

Public Health Nursing is out with a paper co-authored by Carolyn Nganga-Good, DrPH, MS, BSN, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Public Health Nurse Leader 2015-2017 and a member of the Maryland Action Coalition. Among other findings in &ldquo;Overcoming barriers and improving public health nursing practice&rdquo;: the need to advocate to the public, including legislators, &ldquo;what public health does for them on a daily basis.&rdquo;

Dept. of Labor Grants, Campaign Share Common Goal
Announced earlier this fall, the U.S. Department of Labor&rsquo;s Nursing Expansion Grant Program, which offers $80 million to help ease America&rsquo;s nursing shortage, is built on the same foundation as is the Campaign for Action: The National Academy of Medicine&rsquo;s original Future of Nursing report. The shared goal: Improve Americans&rsquo; health by strengthening the country&rsquo;s nursing workforce. Grants will go to increase the number of educators and advance nurses in their educations and careers.

ANA To Fund Organizations Using Project Firstline Curriculum
The American Nurses Association seeks partners in its efforts to teach the fundamentals of infection prevention and control. ANA is offering grants of $10,000 to organizations that can be part of Project Firstline, whose goal is to teach health care workers with a better understanding of ways to protect against infectious disease. Applications are due by November 22.

Funds Offered to Organizations To Help Ease Nursing Shortage
Institutions with programs that can help increase the number of nursing educators and expand and diversify the pipeline of nursing professionals are invited to apply for the U.S. Department of Labor&rsquo;s new Nursing Expansion Grant Program, which offers $80 million to help ease America&rsquo;s nursing shortage. One aim is to increase the number of educators; the second, to advance nurses in their educations and careers. Applications are due by January 6.
