Hi John,
It’s Transgender Awareness Week! This week, transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing stories and experiences, and advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community. 🏳️⚧️
For this Trans Awareness Week at Advocates for Youth, Trans and Non-Binary young people are fighting back while under attack! With the introduction of hundreds of anti-Queer and anti-Trans bills introduced this year, Trans young people and their allies are organizing, mobilizing and demanding change. But we need YOUR help to fight back, raise the visibility of transgender people, and address the issues they face.
Here’s how you can join us in action this Trans Awareness Week:
- Download this year’s Trans Awareness Week Toolkit which includes resources, images, sample social media, and publications to support you in amplifying the voices and experiences of Transgender and Gender Expansive young people.
- Support the Equality Act, which would make it illegal to discriminate against LGBTQ people in employment, housing, schools, restaurants, shelters and other public accommodations. Fill out this form and we'll automatically generate a letter for you to send to your members of Congress!
- Share, like and repost Let’s Stop HIV Together Images. Let’s Stop HIV Together is a digital campaign promoting messaging to stop HIV Stigma, increase access to HIV testing, treatment, and prevention for LGBTQ+ young people.
- Re-share our Instagram post highlighting five Trans and Non-Binary youth activist like Xen, Karmella, Noelle, Mike, and Josie, who are all working at the local, state and national level to create a world where all young people, queer young people, Trans young people and Black Trans young people are affirmed, celebrate and protected.
- On November 20th, support, attend and/or participate in a Transgender Day of Remembrance event. TDOR is a day to honor all those whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence over the past year. Check out this list of resources by GLAAD to learn more!
Trans youth deserve safe, affirming, and supportive environments. Join us in ensuring that their rights, visions, and dreams are realized!
