Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you to the people of the 52nd Assembly District for allowing me the high honor of representing our communities for another two years in the NY State Assembly!

I’m excited to get back to Albany to continue the work of serving this district and fighting for a New York that is safer, fairer, more affordable and more just, a New York that puts into action our State Constitutional right to clean air, clean water and a healthful environment and will constitutionalize our right to make our own reproductive health decisions.

You may also be pleased to learn that all of the ballot propositions passed, including a measure that I helped pass in the state legislature to make investments to fight climate change. This ballot proposition allows for $4.2 billion through a bond issuance for environment-related projects and policy efforts, including funds to improve storm water systems, invest in wastewater infrastructure, fund zero-emissions school buses, and for climate mitigation such as wetland protection and renewable energy projects.

I want to thank my incredible staff for the work they do day in and day out serving this district and making me look good. Let’s all get to work!

Brooklyn Heights Meeting on the BQE Triple Cantilever Repairs, 11/16, 5:30pm. The Brooklyn Heights Association is sponsoring this meeting for Brooklyn Heights residents to learn about the upcoming repairs that DOT has planned for the BQE triple cantilever in 2023. DOT will discuss the work and potential impacts it will have on the neighborhood, and answer your questions. You can view the DOT’s summary of repairs here ([link removed]) . DOT BQE December Meetings. Your voices and input are necessary in the BQE visioning process. The next meetings for BQE Central are on Dec. 13 and Dec.15 from 6:30-8:30pm (info here ([link removed]) ) when the DOT will be gathering feedback on the initial community-driven concepts, so please provide feedback to DOT ([link removed]) if you have not done so already. Mammogram Van Event, Nov. 18, 2022. I’m glad to provide this service to the community in partnership with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation. We are scheduling appointments for Fri., Nov. 18th, between 9am and 4:30pm in front of my district office at 341 Smith Street.

Screenings are open to those who are medically eligible for a screening mammogram, aged 40-79, currently living in NYC, who have not had a mammogram in the past year, and who have not had a flu or Covid vaccine in the last month. The mammograms are provided at no cost, so you do not need insurance, and no co-pay is required even if you have insurance. Community Forum on Ending Medical Debt, Wed. 11/16, 10am-12noon. I’m glad to cosponsor this event with the Community Service Society and a network of groups. The Town Hall will explore patients’ experiences with the healthcare billing and financial aid systems. Join the Gowanus Oversight Task Force! Apply by 11/30. Council Members Shahana Hanif & Lincoln Restler announced the creation of a dedicated community task force ([link removed]) intended to hold City agencies and private developers accountable for multiple community benefits agreements as part of passing the Gowanus Rezoning. Facilitators from James Lima Planning + Development will guide the Gowanus Oversight Task Force; members will participate in public meetings, serve on planning committees and work directly with City agencies and policy experts to make sure the promises made to the Gowanus community are realized. Apply to become a member of the Gowanus Oversight Task force by November 30 ([link removed]) .

Clothing Drive for Local Shelter. Please join our office along with Council Member Lincoln Restler’s office in donating new or gently used men’s clothing for the residents of the downtown Brooklyn men’s shelter. We are accepting men’s job interview clothes, dress shoes and sneakers, and winter coats, hats, and scarves. Drop of donations to Council Member Restler’s office at 410 Atlantic Ave, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Donations accepted through early December.

* Meeting on Prospect Park’s Lakeshore Restoration, Mon. 11/21, 6pm. The Park will be creating a master plan for the upcoming Lakeshore Restoration project, and they're seeking your input. HEAP Benefit Applications for 2023 is Now Open. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps low-income people pay the cost of heating their homes. Eligibility is based on income, household size, primary heating source, and the presence of a household member who is under age 6, age 60 or older or permanently disabled. You may also be eligible for the Heating Equipment Repair and Replacement benefit, which opened up on October 3. You can learn more and apply here ([link removed]) .
