Although the November election is behind us, our fight is far from over. In fact, it’s really just beginning.
Florida Republicans now hold supermajorities in both the state House and Senate, and they’ve already made it clear they intend to further restrict abortion access in our state.
Last Friday, just days after the election, incoming Florida Senate President Kathleen Passidom said she would support restricting abortion at 12 weeks– as if the extreme 15-week abortion ban that was signed into law earlier this year is not enough. Let’s not kid ourselves, they’ll continue chipping away at our reproductive freedom until they ban it outright.
Friend, we might not win this battle, but it’s up to us to continue to build a bench of Democratic pro-choice women leaders who will lead the fight to restore our rights.
I’ll be honest with you – the road ahead won’t be an easy one. Florida Republicans are emboldened by their big win, and it’s scary to think how far they’ll go in this upcoming session.
But we know they’re way more extreme than the majority of Floridians. The majority of Floridians opposed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and do not want further restrictions on abortion.
That’s why our mission to elect Democratic pro-choice women is more important than ever. And with your support, we’re going to continue to recruit, train, and elect reproductive rights champions at all levels of state and local government in Florida.
