The Senate is about to take up the Respect for Marriage Act which would codify the right to same-sex marriage into law. Please go to our Action Alert and contact your representatives, even if you already did so earlier in the year. There will be a procedural vote tomorrow and a vote for final passage later in the week.
The bill has already passed the House so this is the final step in Congress. The bill would guarantee that a same-sex marriage that's legal in one state would be recognized in the other 49, regardless of the couple's sex, race, ethnicity, or national origin.
Currently this right only resides in a Supreme Court decision and we’ve seen what can happen with those rights lately. In fact, the logic behind the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade could be applied just as easily to the case that supports same sex marriage. That is why this legislation is so important. Please take a few moments to contact your Members of Congress on the Respect for Marriage Act.
