Newsletter of the Goethe-Institut Washington

Dear Friends,

That's a wrap on the 30th edition of Film|Neu! A quick recap on our weekend around the city: last Thursday, we opened our German-language film showcase at the Goethe-Institut with Andreas Dresen's Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush. On Friday, we were Embassy of Austria, screening period piece Monte Verità. On Saturday, we headed over to the Embassy of Switzerland, where we screened German selection Precious Ivie and Swiss selection Unrest. Finally, on Sunday, we presented our short film program in partnership with JxJ at the Edlavitch DCJCC. Following the shorts there was a reception at Goethe, and that evening, we closed Film|Neu with documentary Love, Deutschmarks and Death.

We would like to thank the Austrian Cultural Forum Washington, the Embassy of Switzerland, and JxJ for another wonderful collaboration. We are also very grateful to the Friends of the Goethe-Institut in Washington, DC, for their generous support of our programming.

Next weekend, we are excited to kick off the new 'Jazz@Goethe' concert series with drummer Angel Bethea on November 20! This series continues in the spirit of the DC Public Library's 'Jazz in the Basement' series, which we co-hosted for several years in our previous location on K Street. We are very happy to revive the tradition of bringing jazz to the historic U Street corridor, where jazz greats such as Duke Ellington once thrived!
