John,
On January 6, 2021 Donald Trump unleashed a violent and racist mob on the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of a free and fair presidential election.
Since then he has continued to spread the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen―undermining our elections and the future of our democracy.
Tonight, Trump is expected to announce his third candidacy for president of the United States. But his past seditionist acts are disqualifying. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment could not be clearer:
“No person shall … hold any office … under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.”[1]
Sign now and demand secretaries of state, state election boards, and federal and state courts reject and disqualify Donald Trump from running for president under the Fourteenth Amendment.
Following his 2020 electoral defeat, Trump sought to intimidate state officials into reversing the election.[2] He then recruited the violent mob on January 6.[3] He encouraged and incited them to take action against the government despite knowing the crowd was heavily armed.[4] He provided aid to those participating in the attack by choosing not to act, by failing to call in the National Guard or any other law enforcement to assist the overwhelmed Capitol police[5] despite repeated requests.[6]
Donald Trump is a threat to the safety of our citizens and to our democracy. He must not be allowed anywhere near the White House, let alone to be the standard bearer of his party.
Join Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund and our national allies in demanding Trump be disqualified from running for president.
Together, we must never stop fighting for the future of our democracy or for the safety of our fellow citizens.
Thank you for taking action today,
Frank Clemente
