Yesterday, Donald Trump ordered the assassination of the second most powerful official in Iran, killing him in an airstrike as he arrived at Baghdad's international airport.

This dramatic escalation in violence between the United States and Iran should worry everyone, but in particular it is disturbing because it was done without the prior authorization, consent, or even a briefing of Congress.

We're facing a potentially dangerous situation unlike any we've ever seen before. Donald Trump is an unstable egomaniac, and Mitch McConnell has completely abdicated all of the Senate's constitutional oversight responsibilities.

Make no mistake: If Donald Trump takes us into war with Iran, it will be because Mitch McConnell has shown Trump that he can do anything he wants - and Mitch won't allow Congress to even lift a finger to try to stop him.

Mitch McConnell swore an oath to "defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." But instead, Mitch has become the Enabler-in-Chief to Donald Trump, allowing him to erode the very fabric of our democracy. Whether it's been his attacks on the free press, the politicization of our independent judiciary, the declaration of fake "national emergencies," or this latest provocation of war, McConnell has allowed Trump to trample all over our constitution.
