Trump who? Anyway...

John:

You've probably heard the rumbles: a certain former president is set to make a "big announcement" today. But we don't want to talk about him and his future plans - we want to talk about the successes of LGBTQ candidates on Election Night and how his bigotry inadvertently assisted the 2022 Rainbow Wave (which, he would hate!). We're still tracking some races, but you can find the full list of wins here!

If there was one silver lining from the Trump Administration, it was this: LGBTQ people got mad. They got mad about anti-LGBTQ bills and about the disrespect shown to trans members of the military. They got mad when LGBTQ issues and services were erased from government websites. There was a LOT to be mad about, after all. But instead of just getting mad, they stepped up to run - and they got elected.

During the Trump Administration, we started seeing increasing numbers of LGBTQ candidates hitting the trail - and that number has continued to grow each cycle. This year, we saw the MOST ever LGBTQ candidates step up to run for office - over 1,000 candidates, for the first time in U.S. history. And here's how their tenacity paid off on Election Night:

65% of LGBTQ candidates won in the 2022 general election, 545 candidates have won their races so far, 71% of lgbtq women won their races, 58% of out trans candidates won their campaigns, 78% of black LGBTQ candidates declated victory, 68% of latinx lgbtq candidates also win! * with many races still outstanding or headed to a runoff

Now, Trump isn't the only reason LGBTQ people wanted to run for office. But no matter who announces their Presidential campaign today or in the future, one thing is for sure: LGBTQ political power is exponentially growing. And that is something we must celebrate!

And we want to keep growing with it. As more candidates run, demand for endorsements, campaign services and more goes up. If you can make a donation to keep growing LGBTQ political power and supporting LGBTQ candidates, we really appreciate it.

Thanks again for standing with us this cycle,
