Dear John,

Shareholders are making their voices heard at the highest levels of corporate power across every social and environmental issue. This movement works because people like you and me are coming together ready to act. Real change comes through societal shifts, and As You Sow has a long history of taking on big initiatives and achieving big things for the planet by championing environmentally and socially responsible solutions.

With supporters like you on our side, there have been a lot of victories and we recognize that all of us have a collective responsibility to address the challenges that climate change and injustice pose to all of humanity.

Thank you for joining us to transform the economy to build a sustainable and just future. This work is only as strong as the people behind it, and we are so happy to count you among them!

Climate Inflation Exposes True Cost of Skyrocketing Grocery Bills

Climate change is having a clear economic impact on you and your family – it is one of the primary drivers of inflation through globalized supply chains. Crop yields, transportation, logistics, and manufacturing are often disrupted by floods, droughts, and wildfires that used to be once-in-a-hundred-year events and are now common. This causes shortages that lead to price surges that you pay for when you purchase basic needs.

“People are already suffering from extreme weather events and the coverage of these events has focused on the cost of lives and property damage; what hasn’t been discussed is the impact of these events on agriculture and how it reduces supply driving up grocery bills for all of us. We call this phenomenon climate inflation < [link removed] > ,” saidAs You Sow CEO Andrew Behar.

Climate change carries a financial impact for families and communities everywhere. Your support helps push corporations to establish climate transition plans that align with the Paris agreements.

Incentivizing CEO Pay Based on Climate Performance

As You Sow’s new Pay for Climate Performance: Linking CEO Compensation to Emissions Reduction < [link removed] > report finds that while many companies say they link CEO pay to climate reduction goals, such incentives generally lack meaningful metrics or sufficient compensation to incentivize action. This report grades 47 of the largest carbon-emitting companies in the U.S. on their use of CEO climate-related pay incentives, and the quality of such incentives. A whopping 89% of assessed companies earned D or F grades for failing to include a quantitative – or any type of – climate-related incentive. Where climate-related compensation ties were claimed, most were negligible, non-quantitative, and lacked specific climate-related pay incentives.

Linking greenhouse gas emissions targets to compensation is one important means by which CEOs can be incentivized to achieve timely and systematic progress on climate. As one of the only nonprofits working with investors and corporations to create a sustainable future for people and the planet, As You Sow is focused on the economic solutions needed to get us there.

You've joined friends, neighbors, and colleagues in adding your voice to issues that matter – climate action, promoting clean energy, clean air, and clean water for everyone, and standing up to the issues that prevent progress.

We're grateful for your support because our collective power comes from people just like you who care about our future and feel good about taking action to protect our planet.

You can make a difference today by supporting < [link removed] > As You Sow’s critical work!
