Public Order Bill up for Committee stage tomorrow
[link removed]
Write to Lords to oppose buffer zones
Dear supporter,
On 18 October,
MPs voted ([link removed]) by 297 votes to 110 to add an amendment introducing buffer zones to the Public Order Bill. The Bill, including the amendment, is now being scrutinised by the House of Lords. The buffer zones amendment introduced by Stella Creasy in the Commons is now Clause 9 of the Public Order Bill.
A Second Reading debate took place on Tuesday 1 November. The next stage of the Bill is the Committee stage. The first day of Committee will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 16 November and the second and final day will be on Tuesday 22 November.
We do not yet know if Clause 9 will be debated tomorrow or next week. Please write to members of the House of Lords now, asking them to oppose Clause 9 at Committee stage.
You can use our Write to Lords tool (link below) to contact peers. The tool selects 3 peers for you to write to, and provides an editable template.

When Clause 9 was
debated at Second Reading ([link removed]) , Peers from across the House, and with different views on abortion, spelt out how it threatens free speech, harms vulnerable women, and criminalises people for the simple act of offering a leaflet. Dozens of amendments have been tabled to the Clause, trying to make it more palatable. We must keep up the pressure on the House of Lords to throw out this amendment entirely.
Please write to Lords now.
With best wishes,
Alithea Williams
Public Policy Manager
