We are being taken advantage of. It's no longer a matter of "if" – it is only to what extent, and how long we will allow it to continue.

The world stage is like a giant chess board, and those with power, money and military might (or those who aspire to them), do not hesitate to play ruthlessly in their favor, no matter the human cost, even to their own citizens.

Many brutal players are using the cover of economic instability, regional war and political scandal to make moves and forge alliances that will give them insurmountable advantages. The bold moves being made by China to consolidate power and enforce its "sovereignty" over Taiwan, the dangerous Russia-Iran nexus, and the increasingly brazen disregard for human rights in many countries are but a few examples.

If we allow these bad actors to dig in their heels and their positions become entrenched, it will become increasingly difficult (if not impossible) to reverse course. They rely on the fact that the citizens of the West are distracted by so many pressing matters, and they increase their leverage with the supposed economic or political benefits they dangle before Western politicians.

Let's wake up our governments, and the world.

By reminding our national decision makers that our values are sacrosanct, that liberty, human rights and human dignity are not for sale, we can preserve the West as the dominant global force for the betterment of all humankind.
