Hi Friend, Did you know that Thursday morning, we’ll be heading to Laughlin, NV to tell the Bureau of Land Management and the Department of Interior that we want Avi Kwa Ame to be our nation’s next national monument? Avi Kwa Ame (Pronunciation: Ah-VEE kwa-meh) is sacred to 12 Yuman speaking tribes and is at the center of their creation stories and spiritual ideology. Located between the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the Nevada/California border, Avi Kwa Ame, the Mojave name for Spirit Mountain, could be Nevada’s 4th national monument! Covering nearly 450,000 acres in southwestern Nevada, it’s rich in history and beauty. The proposed national monument includes petroglyphs; historic mining- and pioneer-era artifacts; rare and threatened wildlife such as the Mojave Desert tortoise and desert bighorn sheep. This is where you come in, Friend! Tribal leaders, Avi Kwa Ame monument supporters, and community members are traveling to Laughlin and you’re invited! During the hearing, folks will tell the panel why they want to honor Avi Kwa Ame. Are you down for a road trip to Laughlin with us? Need a ride? We’ve got you covered! Fill out this form and we’ll carpool there together! If you aren’t able to roadtrip with us or you want something fun to do, before Thursday, sign this petition to #HonorAviKwaAme! Supporting Avi Kwa Ame with you,
