John,
With extremely narrow margins expected in the U.S. House starting in January, we need Congress to act now on several key issues before it’s too late.
More than 1.3 million people live with a DACA recipient (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). With DACA being challenged in the courts, we need Congress to act during the lame-duck session to protect undocumented youth from deportation.
DACA recipients live and work in our communities, pay taxes, and contribute to our society. In fact, if DACA was to end, the U.S. would lose more than 500,000 jobs including 34,000 health care workers providing patient care and another 11,000 people working in health care settings to keep those facilities functioning. Already, we’ve sent more than 70,000 messages directly to members of Congress demanding permanent protections for undocumented immigrant youth. And there’s more work to do.
In 2021, the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) assisted 36 million families across the country with monthly checks of between $250 and $300 per child. One month after the monthly CTC payments stopped, 3.7 million children were plunged back into poverty and 2 million more people with children reported sometimes or often not having enough to eat.
Congress must act during the lame-duck session to pass the expanded Child Tax Credit to support millions of children and their families. With our allies, we’ve sent nearly 65,000 messages demanding Congress act and we must keep up the pressure.
The expansion of Medicaid and CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) during the COVID-19 public health emergency has ensured health care access to millions of low-income people and families. But those protections are likely to end when the public health emergency expires, unless Congress acts.
Along with our allies, we’re sending thousands of messages demanding Congress protect and expand health care access during the lame-duck session. Since last Friday, we’ve sent more than 35,000 letters to members of Congress. Let’s keep the pressure on!
From protecting undocumented immigrant youth from deportation to lifting millions of children out of poverty to preventing millions of people from losing their health care coverage, we need Congress to act before the end of the year. Donate today!

Because of the very narrow margins expected in Congress next year, if we don’t get these critical reforms before the end of the year, we’re unlikely to get them next year.
Thank you for fighting for the human needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable among us.
