The races have been called and it’s official: these four democracy champions won out over their election-denying opponents!
Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nevada avoided a future where the chief elections officer made voting harder and undermined mail-in voting, early voting, and the will of the people. These are states that helped clinch victory for President Biden in 2020, and it’s no coincidence that the GOP supported the most odious candidates they had for the top election position.
But the voters rejected Mark Finchem, Kristina Karamo, Kim Crockett, and Jim Marchant, seeing them for what they really are: Trump-approved election deniers who were unfit to oversee any election.
This is a huge win for our democracy. And it couldn’t have happened without the Stand Up America community.
Together, we wrote thousands of letters to the editor, texted hundreds of thousands of voters, and wrote tens of thousands of handwritten letters to potential voters in key states—all to make sure our friends, neighbors, and fellow Americans knew what was at stake this midterm election.
We didn’t fall for the conspiracies and the lies. This midterm, we chose secretaries of state who will protect our democracy and oversee elections with fairness and in accordance with the will of the people.
Even though we’re still waiting on a handful of races to be called, we’re celebrating this for the huge victory that it is. This is the firewall our democracy will need in 2024 and beyond.
