No outsider knew this man’s name, or even very much about his tribe — he resisted all attempts at contact, and was known only as “the Man of the Hole.” What we do know is that the death of his people was not accidental. It was genocide, the deliberate wiping out of an entire people by cattle ranchers hungry for land and wealth, emboldened by a government that turns a blind eye to atrocities committed against Indigenous peoples.
Unfortunately, this is not a one time incident. Indigenous people in Brazil continue to fight for their lives against the devastation created by outgoing Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and his still powerful agribusiness allies. Indigenous people, resisting the theft of their land, are being attacked and murdered.
Together with the Indigenous peoples we have worked with for decades, Survival is doing everything in our power to make sure this genocide is not repeated. And we need your help.
When you support Survival, you fund our campaigns, critical investigations, and on-the-ground help to support Indigenous peoples facing genocide in Brazil. And right now, your donations make double the difference.
