President Trump’s airstrike on an Iranian General without notifying Congress was a reckless act of war. This escalation proves that we need leaders in Washington with actual experience in war.

Qassem Soleimani was undeniably a threat to peace. He was responsible for the murder of American servicemen and women along with countless innocent civilians. But great powers seek diplomatic solutions and do not stoke the fires of violence in a volatile part of the globe. Trump's order actually puts more Americans in danger.

I know the human heartbreak of war. I know the price of military escalation, and I understand how nuanced American foreign policy can be. More veterans are needed to make policy decisions in Washington, and if you’ve been watching the news in the past couple of days, I think you’d agree with me.

The world is not a safer place today than it was yesterday, and we can’t let Trump continue to put our future in peril.
