Stop the Far Left's Lame-Duck Agenda

Dear John,

After a long election season, like most Americans we would love to put politics and policy on the back burner.

We would all rather focus on family gathering for Thanksgiving, preparing for special Christmas services, and the remarkable joy of this holiday season. But the far Left is counting on exactly that to enact their agenda.

A few weeks ago, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) telegraphed their plans when he said, "Members should be prepared for an extremely--underline extremely--busy agenda in the last two months of this Congress."

Schumer and others state that the bill I call the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act will be a big priority during the so-called "lame-duck session" that has started this week. So will major bills on expanding abortion and special privileges for sexual orientation and gender identity.

Plus, President Biden also has more than 40 judicial nominees awaiting Senate confirmation. And a complex fight over the $5 trillion annual U.S. budget gives leftists opportunities to conceal spending on radical causes. They want to stuff the budget like a Thanksgiving turkey!

But, if together we can raise the alarm among vigilant citizens, the far Left's "extremely busy" agenda could face roadblocks at every point.

FRC has tools and strategies to inform and help bolster courageous conservatives in their convictions. Can you stand with us at this moment in history and give towards this effort?

The threat of dangerous policies being enacted during a lame-duck session is not idle conjecture.

It's happened before. In November 2010, many Americans thought they had "done their job" on Election Day and turned their attention elsewhere.

But during that lame-duck session, leftists organized their faction around repealing the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy regarding open homosexuality in the armed forces.

A few Republican members of Congress went along, thinking it wasn't consequential. Signed into law by President Obama, that policy change set in motion a series of events that led to the U.S. Supreme Court legalizing same-sex marriage in 2015, overriding many state constitutions.

Without our united action, history could repeat itself.

During the days ahead, FRC team members will work overtime to provide the updates you need via The Washington Stand and our Washington Watch national program, so stay tuned.

Your support today will enable FRC to educate members of Congress and the public on the consequences of the far Left's policies with regard to life, marriage, families, religious freedom, and constitutional principles. Can you help today and avoid a repeat of lame-duck fallout?

Today, some "conservatives" in the Senate have been tempted to follow suit.

This summer, we already saw 47 House Republicans join Democrats in voting for the so-called Respect for Marriage Act, a bill that presents several concerns on religious freedom and free speech.

In this lame-duck session, the pressure to cave will be immense. Along with the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act, Senate leaders also want the Equality Act--one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation ever put forward--to get a vote.

Introduced last year, this proposed law would massively overhaul our federal civil rights framework in order to mandate special privileges for sexual orientation and gender identity. It would also jeopardize women's privacy and safety, expand abortion access, and erode religious freedom and parental rights.

How should we respond?

We must pray, stay informed, and be engaged.

As the apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 2:1-3:

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way."

Each of us should take these words to heart. Pray for leaders in Congress--that wisdom, prudence, and transparency would guide their actions that will affect millions of lives and trillions of dollars over the coming weeks.

We must also speak up. We won't stand for abortion-on-demand paid for with our tax dollars. We won't allow the far Left to indoctrinate our children with radical gender ideology!

As each of us counts our blessings during this Thanksgiving season, faithful supporters like you are among those for whom we at FRC are grateful. Thank you for your stand!

P.S. - Right now, Congress is debating extreme policies--including how to spend five trillion in taxpayer dollars. If the past is any indication of the far Left's plans, they'll stuff the budget like a Thanksgiving turkey, then cover up the excess with more federal gravy. Please prayerfully consider a gift to FRC so our team can broadcast the truth where it's most needed.
