RUN HIDE FIGHT is the message thousands of students at the University of Virginia received late last night when a gunman shot and killed three students and injured two more. The campus remained under a shelter-in-place order for nearly 12 hours before the shooter was apprehended.

No student — no one in America — should have to receive a message like this, John. No one should have to live in fear of being gunned down. We don’t have to live like this and we must urge Congress to take action today.

This is the 18th mass shooting event in Virginia this year and at least the 595th mass shooting  nationally. This year will see the most school shootings in decades.
