The Arlington Young Democrats extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis, Jr., D’Sean Perry, and the entire community of the University of Virginia and Charlottesville.
We are deeply saddened and enraged by the deaths of these three UVA students who fell victim to yet another senseless act of gun violence. Another community must now go through the grief and trauma of what is a uniquely American tragedy. And without action, we are painfully aware that this will not be the last. According to the New York Times, since February 2022 there have been at least four incidents of gun violence on or in proximity to Virginia campuses alone. The tragic event at UVA marks the fifth.
We strongly condemn the elected leaders who have failed to act and have blocked solutions repeatedly in the face of such tragedies. And once again, we urge our elected leaders to take further concrete legislative action to address the gun violence that is so prevalent in our country. In deep sorrow, The AYD Executive Board |
