John—This morning, we woke up to headlines that yet another American school had been terrorized by gun violence. Three University of Virginia football players were killed and two other students were wounded in a mass shooting on a bus returning from a school field trip. Students and staff were forced to shelter in place for 12 hours. And our whole country was reminded of the uniquely American horror of school shootings.
It does not have to be this way. We do not have to accept school shootings as the price of freedom. We do not have to make our children rehearse their own deaths at school. We CAN prevent gun violence. Can you contribute $5 today to help fund our fight to keep our schools and communities safe from gun violence?
This shooting was just the latest in a year that has seen a record number of school shootings. Less than a week ago, a shooting at Ingraham High School in Seattle, WA left one student dead and thousands more traumatized. Today, more than one thousand Seattle students rallied at City Hall to demand that our elected leaders treat the gun violence epidemic like the public health emergency that it is.
We are committed to doing whatever it takes to lift up their demands and to keep fighting to keep assault weapons out of our neighborhoods and fund programs that keep our neighborhoods safe.
Our young people should not have to fear for their lives at school. Please, make a gift today to support our lifesaving work to build the safer, more just future they deserve.
Thank you,
Renée (she/her)
