John – The dust has settled and the votes have been counted.
It was not the result that we had hoped for, yet I still have so much hope. Here’s why.
Last Tuesday, voters across the nation stood up to defend our democracy against all odds.
In race after race, the most vehemently anti-democratic candidates lost. The election deniers, the insurrectionists, and those who would subvert the will of voters to suit their own agenda were rejected nearly across the board.
Voters in swing states most vulnerable to potential election subversion in 2024 overwhelmingly chose candidates for Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Governor who will defend democracy and stand behind the will of the voters.
Americans overwhelmingly voted to defend reproductive freedom in ballot initiatives, and denied the GOP the majority they need in the Senate to pass a national abortion ban.
While we didn’t get the results we hoped for here in Idaho, I still call that a damn good day for democracy.
And our fight is not over, John.
Throughout the campaign I asked you to be relentless. Being relentless does not mean that you always win. In fact, often when you are working for something big you have setbacks. But relentless people get back up and keep going. And that’s what we are going to do.
When I started this race I told myself that win or lose at the end of the day I want this race to mean something – and it has, to so many people.
Throughout the campaign I received so many heartfelt, encouraging emails, comments, and notes from people all across the country. The letters that moved me the most are those from parents of LGBTQ+ kids who drew inspiration in seeing an openly gay man run for the United States Senate – out and proud.
I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. I am not giving up on Idaho. Every seat matters, and we deserve to have our voices heard in the halls of power.
Right now I want to thank every donor, supporter, volunteer, and my staff who all worked so hard to make this campaign a positive voice. And of course, I am grateful to my family who sacrificed so much to support this campaign.
While this race has ended, our fight continues. I am committed to building the organizing infrastructure needed to bring lasting change to Idaho, and I will continue to stand up in every way that I can.
We still have a little over $9,000 in campaign debt to close out. Would you be willing to contribute one more time to help us start our next venture with a clean slate?
