On November 17, Tell Your Legislators: #BuildBackforJustice No images? Click here Dear John, Last week, millions of us voted for the values we believe in, values of equity and justice. Now it’s Congress’ moment to stand by these values. Tell Congress that their work for 2022 is not yet done. If we’re serious about the values we voted for last week, we need to take that first step towards racial economic justice and invest in the most basic resources for children and families—especially in BIPOC communities—the Child Tax Credit expansion. Join us for a #BuildBackforJustice Day of Action on Thursday, November 17. Take action by:
Use our #BuildBackforJustice Toolkit and help Prosperity Now fight to close the racial wealth divide and provide families and children with the resources they need to build financial security and succeed. New data from the U.S. Census Bureau has found that the expanded Child Tax Credit in 2021 contributed significantly to the 46 percent decline in child poverty that occurred between 2020 and 2021. This unprecedented decline brought the child poverty rate to a record low of 5.2 percent, lifting 2.9 million children out of poverty. Failure to extend the expansion has sent millions of children back into poverty, just as families are struggling with high inflation and economic uncertainty. In partnership, Alejandra Montoya-Boyer |
