While we are uplifting our transgender loved ones this week during Transgender Awareness Week, it is critical we remember and honor Transgender Day of Remembrance -- typically held on or around November 20th. Each year, we take a moment to honor all transgender people whose lives were taken by violence.

Mama Has a Mustache: A #TransgenderAwarenessWeek Screening Opportunity!

Mama Has a Mustache is an award-winning, fully animated doc about gender and family, as seen through children’s eyes. The film explores how children experience a world outside of the traditional gender binary—and how we can learn from them as adults. Now, timed to Transgender Awareness Week, we're thrilled to make the 10-minute film available to watch at Mama Has a Mustache + PFLAG National from November 18-20.

Consider hosting an in-person screening or virtual watch party with family and friends. Then, on Thursday November 17th, join us on our social media channels for our weekly Something to Talk About Live! with the film's nonbinary Emmy-nominated director, Professor Sally Rubin, just before accessing the film the weekend of November 18th-20th. See below for details.

We invite you to take advantage of this great opportunity to celebrate #TransgenderAwarenessWeek!

Three Steps to Being a Better Trans Ally

Transgender Awareness Week started yesterday, so make sure you’re ready to support the Trans and Nonbinary community, not just during #TransgenderAwarenessWeek, but all year long.

  1. Learn: Check out straightforequality.org/trans to help you learn more about what you can do to be a better ally to individuals who identify as transgender and/or nonbinary, no matter where you are on your ally journey.
  2. Watch: Re-watch our Supporting Trans and Nonbinary Loved Ones: What Would You Do? PFLAG Academy Online session to keep your allyship skills sharp and focused. Tell your Senators: Vote to support the Respect for Marriage Act

Tell your Senators TODAY to vote YES on the Respect for Marriage Act.

The Senate may vote on the Respect for Marriage Act (RMA) as soon as THIS WEEK. The RMA will repeal DOMA and codify into law the right to same-sex and interracial marriage, rights which could become under threat following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

No matter WHO your Senators are, don’t let them have to wonder what you need them to do: Tell them to vote YES on RMA.

Something to Talk About...Live!

It's Transgender Awareness Week

LGBTQ+ youth in schools have consistently reported experiencing bullying and harassment in schools. Unfortunately, the 2021 National School Climate Survey proves that things have only gotten worse in recent years. That research also illustrates what works – including inclusive curriculum and films like Sally Rubin’s Mama Has a Mustache

Join us this Thursday, November 17 at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something to Talk About Live where we will be discussing "More than 80 percent of LGBTQ students reported feeling unsafe at school last year: report,” by Brooke Migdon which appeared in The Hill, and “Chapman Filmmaker Sally Rubin Finds That Kids Say the Most Insightful Things About Family and Gender Identity” by Dennis Arp which appeared in the Chapman University Newsroom.

We're excited to welcome Joseph Kosciw, Director, GLSEN Research Institute and Sally Rubin, Filmmaker, Mama Has a Mustache to the conversation!

As always, you can find us on FacebookYouTubeTwitter, and LinkedIn.
