E&E News ([link removed]) (11/11/22) reports: "The prospect of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chair Richard Glick losing his job by year’s end could derail policies critical for President Joe Biden’s clean energy and climate agenda. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Chair Joe Manchin is 'not comfortable' holding a hearing for Glick, Manchin spokesperson Sam Runyon said Thursday, effectively killing the chairman’s chances of staying on the regulatory panel. Glick, a Democrat who joined FERC in 2017, had been nominated by Biden to lead the agency for another four years, pending approval by the Senate. His departure would mean that Democrats lose their majority on the five-person commission...Republicans were unlikely to support Glick’s nomination. Earlier this year, Senate ENR Republicans grilled Glick for alleged anti-fossil fuel FERC policies, including a draft proposal that would consider the climate
emissions of natural gas infrastructure in permitting decisions. Glick had also been publicly criticized recently by the Institute for Energy Research, a conservative think tank. The group has accused him of having coordinated with the White House on a greenhouse gas emissions policy for natural gas pipelines, a charge Glick and others have said is unfounded. Thomas Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research, said he was 'not surprised' to hear that Manchin would not hold a hearing for Glick. With a four-person commission, FERC could potentially 'return to consensus-building,' Pyle said. 'FERC has and can function well with a four-person commission. It just requires that they seek consensus, as opposed to advancing a partisan agenda that’s not consistent with the current mission of FERC,' he said. Glick declined to comment on possible communications with the White House, but he said he would 'take it day by day' regarding his plans for the rest of the year at the commission."

To show off in Egypt, EPA proposed to harm U.S. oil and gas producers. Which producers will fight back?

(11/11/22) reports: "The Biden administration is strengthening its plan for limiting methane emissions from oil and gas wells after environmentalists panned an earlier version as too weak. The Environmental Protection Agency advanced the supplemental proposed rule on Friday, hours before President Joe Biden was set to tout US efforts to fight climate change at the COP27 summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. The proposed regulation would require energy companies to do more to stifle leaks. The measure, which isn’t set to be finalized until next year, responds to criticism by environmentalists by strengthening leak-detection-and-repair requirements for small oil and gas wells and by establishing requirements for abandoned facilities. 'All well sites, regardless of their size, will be regularly monitored and checked for leaks,' EPA Administrator Michael Regan told reporters at the UN conference in Egypt. That marks a shift from the initial proposal unveiled last year, which included exemptions for some
wells. Changes in the proposal would ensure regular inspections even at low-producing wells, which can be an outsize source of methane. And a newly proposed 'super-emitter response program' would require oil and gas companies to respond to credible third-party reports of high-volume methane leaks at their operations. That’s an initiative that could empower activists who now use specialized and other technology to track methane plumes and venting wells unseen by the naked eye."

We said this all along. But now that Elon is a "champion of free speech," I suppose he will get a free pass in conservative land. But not from us.

(11/10/22) reports: "Tesla has canceled solar projects en masse across the US as the company says that it is shutting down its solar operations in some markets. After years of its solar business slowing down since acquiring it through taking over SolarCity in 2016, Tesla’s solar division was finally getting some momentum over the last few quarters. Tesla achieved a record US residential solar deployment in Q2 2022. Last quarter, Tesla also had a strong performance with 94 MW of solar power deployed – up 13% year-over-year. However, the momentum was not without issue as Tesla had to stop scheduling solar roof projects in most markets in Q3. The automaker focused on deploying the product on new construction projects, like a large one in Austin. Now we learn that Tesla is canceling many solar projects, including some in advanced stages, and the company is saying that it shutting down operations in some markets. Over the last three days, Electrek has received half a dozen reports from Tesla
Solar customers who have been informed by the company that Tesla would not be moving forward with their projects and canceling the order."
