ACTION ALERT
Help Save America's Birds & Other Wildlife From Extinction
Dear Audubon Advocate,
Time is of the essence! Congress has returned for its final weeks of the legislative session, and Audubon is working for the passage of several priority bills. Among them: The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA).
America’s wildlife is in crisis—science tells us that we’ve lost 3 billion birds in less than a human lifetime and that two-thirds of North American bird species are at risk of extinction due to climate change. The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act will ramp up support for the conservation of vulnerable species, like Golden-winged Warblers and Black Terns, to protect them before they become endangered.

Audubon and our partners are working to build broad support for a suite of actions to bring birds back that foster on-the-ground protection and recovery of bird populations, and conservation of the habitats they need to thrive. The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act is a key part of this effort to ensure we have sufficient funding to support bird conservation.
This bill will redirect existing and untapped federal resources to states to fully implement their State Wildlife Action Plans, which help species of greatest conservation need. The state plans are incredibly important in keeping species from becoming endangered, but they are severely underfunded. At the same time, the bill complements these efforts by expanding funding to recover threatened and endangered species as well.
Congress has the opportunity to help not only birds and other wildlife but also to create jobs in communities across the country. In addition to providing annual support for proactive, on-the-ground conservation projects, recent studies project that the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act could create more than 30,000 jobs and generate over $93 billion in total economic activity.
