John,
It’s official: Democrats have held the Senate majority.
But we’re not done yet. We still have an upcoming runoff election in Georgia and it’s crucial that we re-elect my colleague Reverend Raphael Warnock. I’m asking this team to stay in the fight a bit longer.
Our grassroots team made tremendous progress this year. Here in Illinois, we re-elected Tammy Duckworth and will be sending a strong slate of Democrats to Congress. And we helped elect John Fetterman, a strong voice for working families, who could potentially be our 51st vote.
We should absolutely celebrate these wins — but we can’t slow down our efforts with a Senate seat still up for grabs.
Holding the Senate with 51 votes instead of 50 will make a big difference in how we govern. It’ll give us a true majority on Committees, avoid deadlocks, and allow us to make more progress on all the issues we care about. And not only that, but we need Senator Warnock’s voice in Congress.
My best,
Dick Durbin
