John, When the Senate returns to session today, it will be faced with the trial of a lifetime: whether or not to convict and remove President Trump from office for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Yet one of our most critical constitutional safeguards is under attack. Top Senate Republicans are refusing to hear evidence that the president has abused his power for personal gain and has obstructed Congress in its impeachment investigation. In doing so, they are directly defying their oaths of office to “defend the Constitution,” as well the oaths they are required to take with any impeachment trial to “do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws.” Donald Trump sought illegal foreign assistance from the Ukrainian government for his re-election campaign, and engaged in extortion and bribery in the process. He then tried to cover it all up. And, we had overwhelming evidence prior to this scandal of the president’s multiple high crimes. We expect the United States Senate to hold Trump accountable because nobody, not even the president, is above the law. Tell your senators: uphold our Constitution and convict President Trump for his high crimes. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
