This years Christmas lights switch on will be on Wednesday 7 December from 4pm at Peppers Gardens, near the Asda in Hyson Green. There will be mince pies and a choir to help get you in the festive spirit.Â
We have added better, safer pedestrian crossings on the infamous Haydn Road/Nottingham Road junction. This work was completed in the spring.
To make this happen we used money secured from the government's Active Travel Fund, to encourage people to walk and cycle as often as possible.
Lots of residents have already said that this work has made such a difference by making them feel safer, and it’s made it easier to take their kids to and from the local primary school.
Reports of excess waste and items being fly tipped onto the streets in the ward are increasing. You see it, we see it and residents regularly complain to us about this issue.
In June we focused on Forest Fields and New Basford to raise awareness of how to recycle and how to report a collection of bulky waste items. A range of leaflets in different languages were printed and we door knocked residents.
Residents receiving Council Tax Support are entitled to one free bulky waste collection per financial year, have your council tax reference number ready if you’d like to claim your free collection.

Nottingham's parks and green spaces played a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely. We are delighted that the City Council has achieved the Green Flag Awards, which is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, both staff and volunteers, that make the city's parks and green spaces a great space that everyone can enjoy.
We are proud that Hedley Villas Park in Berridge has been recognised as among the very best in the UK by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, and received a Green Flag Community Award. A full list of Green Flag Award-winning parks and green spaces is available here.
How about joining our Nottingham Clean Champions scheme? You'll get a free litter-picking kit, and join over 7000 volunteers across the city making a difference on their doorstep. Hear from one of our volunteers, Nic, about their experience being a Clean Champion.
The scheme provides the tools and resources needed to clean up your street, and we will be there to support you. To find out more and sign-up visit this page.
The much loved event returned to the Forest Recreation Ground after a two year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic and was extended to 10 days from Friday 30 September to Sunday 9 October. New rides included the “Void Extreme” as well as lots of returning favourites such as “Ice Jet Matterhorn” and two “Giant Wheels” giving panoramic views across the fair and the city beyond.
Diwali is known as the “Festival of Lights” thanks to the practice of lighting oil lamps and decorating homes and cities with strings of twinkling lights. To symbolise the victory of light over darkness was celebrated on Monday 24 October by the Indian Communities.Â

As part of the Streets for People programme, money is being spent on improving some of the pavements and roads in Berridge.
This is money which is reserved for highway work and cannot be spent on anything else.
Roads on the list include Tettenbury, Valmont and Girton plus many others.Â
You can find out more by visiting the streets for people website.
Do you have any issues or concerns about your neighbourhood?
Your Councillors are happy to meet residents at their surgery and take on resident issues. Drop in to meet your local Councillors on the first and third Saturday of each month, 11am - 12pm at the Mary Potter Centre, Gregory Boulevard.
Whilst we have been dealing with the usual issues, there is a noticeable increase in people coming to see us needing help with financial issues and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We are linking people up with advice centres and the Nottingham Financial Resilience Forum. We are also providing support where we can to people having issues with their social security claims.
Ward walks are now regularly back on, covering all areas of the ward, identifying issues, repairs and maintenance, and speaking to local residents. If you would like to join us or want to request a walk around your area let us know.
As winter approaches and the cost of living crisis bites, we have launched a campaign to tell people where to look for money help and advice in Nottingham.
The Ask Lion website www.asklion.co.uk/money is a useful one-stop-shop that pulls together simple steps everyone can take to help manage their finances. The advice covers budgeting, benefits, savings, debt, housing problems, food banks and ways to reduce household bills.
The asklion website also signposts people to a wide range of support agencies who can give you free and confidential advice with more complex money problems.
There is obviously a close link between money worries, stress and anxiety. So it’s important to know that mental health support is also available through www.asklion.co.uk/mentalhealth with a directory of local confidential support services.
If you’re worried about money this winter, the important thing to remember is that you are not alone and help is available in Nottingham.
