A Decade in Review: The Top 10 Trends of the Last 10 Years

This decade has gone by like a whirlwind. Due to the 24-hour news cycle, online outrage mobs and incessant fearmongering, it can ostensibly feel like the world has been in perpetual crises. In reality, the past decade has been quite calm. There have been no major wars or terrorist attacks. The stock market continued its longest bull run in history, and all indicators point to a roaring economy. In general, things are going well, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Heading into 2020, it’s a good idea to reflect on some of the trends of the past decade, both good and bad, to see where our country is headed, and what we need to focus on.

Michigan County Accused of Retaliating Against Faith-Based Charity

St. Vincent Catholic Charities in Lansing, Michigan provides a variety of social service to its neighbors via contracts with state and local governmental agencies. St. Vincent is currently asserting its First Amendment freedom rights in the federal courts to prevent the state government of Michigan from revoking access to adoption and foster care contracts simply because the charity, acting on its religious beliefs, wants to place children only with married moms and dads. A federal judge recently blocked the state from doing that while the charity’s lawsuit, titled Buck v. Gordon, proceeds to trial. |

President Trump Signs Bill Raising Legal Age to Buy Tobacco to 21

On the Friday before Christmas, President Trump signed a $1.4 trillion dollar spending bill which, among other items, raised the federal legal age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21.
According to National Review, “The new law, which takes effect next summer, will ban the sale of all tobacco products including traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes to people under 21. Already, 19 U.S. states or territories have raised the minimum smoking age above the old federal minimum of 18 years old. The new law will make the stricter minimum age mandatory nationwide.” |

Teen Vogue Pushes Transgender History Lesson

Teen Vogue recently re-tweeted an article entitled: “Gender Variance Around the World Over Time: It’s nothing new.” It’s the latest attempt to reinvent history to suit the LGBT and progressive crowd.
In the article, Lucy Diavolo, who appears to be a transgender woman, argues against the so-called “white cisheteropatriarchal lens” that supposedly informs historical interpretations. Diavolo insists that “understanding (LGBT) history will only help to inform the ongoing struggle for the liberation of gender-variant people everywhere.” |
