At any given night at midnight in America, there’s a parent whose child
has an out-of-control fever. They call the pediatrician and ask “What
should I do?” They're told: go to the emergency room.

So they put the baby in the back seat of the car and drive to the
hospital. They’re sitting in the car looking at those sliding glass doors
of the emergency room, one hand on their baby's forehead.

Why are they paused? Because they know if they walk through those sliding
glass doors, they’ll be out of pocket their $5,000 deductible.

They have insurance -- but over the years, the insurance companies have
been jacking up deductibles, jacking up premiums, jacking up copays.

Enough.

Today, I announced my plan to enact Medicare for All and ensure health
care coverage for every American. Because no parent should ever have to
sit in the parking lot wondering whether they can afford to take their
child to the hospital ever again.
