Anti-choice legislators are back to work this week, and the first item on their agenda? A brief to the Supreme Court asking them to reconsider Roe v. Wade.
We should be funding Planned Parenthood and making sure everyone has access to health care. Instead, more than 200 members of Congress – 39 Senators and 168 Representatives – want to overturn Roe, the landmark privacy case that guarantees reproductive autonomy. They filed their brief in June Medical Services LLC v. Gee, a case challenging a severely restrictive Louisiana state law. It's on the docket to be heard in the spring.
In 2016, the Supreme Court struck down very similar restrictions. But now there are two new Supreme Court justices, and the anti-choice crowd is emboldened.
We must stop the ruthless attempts to undermine reproductive rights in this country. We must bring a halt to the fear-mongering, rampant misinformation, and manipulation of women when we are at our most vulnerable.
This fight has gone on for centuries, and we won't stop now. For women, for families, for reproductive freedom.
