john,

This week’s midterm election results surprised many. The pundits, the pollsters, and especially, MAGA Republicans.

But I’d wager that there was one group of people who weren’t surprised: Democrats like you who got involved. You ignored the polls, rejected Republicans' rhetoric of divisiveness and extremism, and kept organizing for our rights, our democracy, and our freedoms.

We have so much to thank you for, john.

While we don’t yet know which party will control Congress, we do know that the “red wave” narrative that Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and Kevin McCarthy pushed out didn’t materialize.

Every door knocked, phone call made, vote cast, and every dollar you chipped in — it all proved consequential to Democrats’ victories in the midterm elections.

And just look at what we accomplished together!

Senators Mark Kelly, Maggie Hassan, Patty Murray, and Michael Bennet defeated right-wing candidates, and it's looking promising for Catherine Cortez Masto. Senator Raphael Warnock has advanced to a runoff election in December. John Fetterman flipped Pennsylvania to become my colleague in the Senate, an unabashed progressive champion for working people.

In Minnesota, Tim Walz and Peggy Flanagan won re-election and will continue to be an excellent Governor and Lt. Governor. Angie Craig, Minnesota’s first LGBTQ+ member of Congress, defeated a Republican candidate by even greater margins than in 2020. And Keith Ellison will continue to be the people’s lawyer as Minnesota Attorney General.

We also flipped control of the Minnesota Senate to the DFL for the first time in nearly a decade, giving the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party a legislative trifecta.

Abortion rights were also on the ballot, and Michigan, California, Vermont, Kentucky, and Kansas voters either restored reproductive freedom or stopped attempts to strip those rights away by an overwhelming margin.

It was a remarkable performance that was built by engaged Democrats just like you who kept up the fight for a brighter future, and I’m grateful for this team’s significant contributions to these victories.

And while we celebrate, we should also recognize that we didn’t win everywhere. Despite Mandala Barnes, Tim Ryan, Cheri Beasley, and Val Demings’ losses, this team showed up for them, and they are grateful for your support.

Democracy survived, john. But the threat that Trumpism poses to our democracy is far from over. At least 124 Republicans elected have publicly denied that President Biden won his election in 2020. Donald Trump himself promised a “very big announcement” coming on Tuesday.

There’s no telling what will happen between now and the next election, but I do know you will be an integral part of it.

And for that, I’m forever grateful to this grassroots team.

Thank you for being on my team,

— Tina
