Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Delivering for #NY22 In Congress, I have continued to advocate fiercely for our communities. I have worked to ensure the Federal government functions better for New York's 22nd Congressional District through casework successes and mobile and virtual office hours. I've also worked to promote commonsense policies to support our seniors, empower our small businesses, bring back critical manufacturing jobs and supply chains, and restore American energy independence. You may have seen on social media that I recently highlighted my #22WinsIn22, where I underscored critical victories for our communities this year. Below are 22 of some of the most important wins in 2022. I look forward to your feedback! #1 Support Grows for Essential Caregivers Act In 2021, I introduced the bipartisan Essential Caregivers Act to ensure our loved ones in nursing homes and long-term care facilities never again endure the pain and suffering of isolation they experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. This bill strengthens resident rights and creates a new and stronger standard of care. In 2022, we added nearly 50 new members as cosponsors to this important legislation. Today, the bill has nearly 80 bipartisan cosponsors from states across the country, and support continues to grow! #2: Returning Money to Constituents This year, my team of expert caseworkers has helped return nearly $8 million to constituents across New York's 22nd Congressional District! This was a tremendous success and is a critical part of my fight to ensure the Federal government works properly for YOU! This includes Social Security benefits, veterans benefits, and Small Business Administration loans. If you or anyone you know ever needs help with a federal agency, give my Utica office a call at 315-732-0713, or my Binghamton office at 607-242-0200. #3: Mental Health Legislation Passes House It was my privilege to co-lead the bipartisan REACHING Improved Mental Health Outcomes for Patients Act, which passed the House as part of a larger mental health package this year. This bill improves programs that provide care and treatment for mental health, suicide prevention, substance abuse, and more. #4: Introduced Legislation to Establish a Select Committee on Older Americans America's seniors are facing unprecedented challenges today, especially with the soaring cost of living. Inflation remained high at 7.7% in October, and real hourly wages for workers DECREASED. Fuel oil is up 68.5%, food is up 10.9%, and shelter is up 6.9%. That's why I introduced a resolution to create a Select Committee on Older Americans to ensure Congress understands the challenges seniors face today and is meeting the needs of America's seniors! #5: Introduced the American Confidence in Elections Act I was an original cosponsor of the American Confidence in Elections Act to secure our elections by banning Zuckerbucks, stopping Biden from turning federal agencies into partisan voter mobilization operations, and more! As co-chair and founder of the Election Integrity Caucus, I am committed to ensuring every American has faith and confidence in our elections! #6: Unleashing American Energy Production I introduced the American Energy is Global Security Act to unleash American energy production and lower costs for consumers! New York is sitting on top of the Utica and Marcellus shales, which could power our state for decades. However, New York's restrictive and unscientific policies have barred our state from accessing these resources. It's time to end the war on American energy! #7: WBC Improvement Act Passed House I co-led the Women’s Business Center Improvement Act of 2022, which passed the House by a wide bipartisan margin. This important legislation will ensure the Women-Owned Small Business program is transparent, accountable, and works for our nation’s small businesses and America's taxpayers! #8: Secured Eight Local Projects Through the Community Project Funding Process As part of the Community Project Funding process, I secured funding for eight local projects to benefit our communities. These projects will help ensure the availability of clean water, increase access to broadband, and much more! You can read more about the projects here. #9: Introduced the Stop CCP Infrastructure Act I introduced the bipartisan Stop CCP Infrastructure Act to ensure federal infrastructure projects don’t bankroll the Chinese Communist Party’s malign activity! You can read more about this bill here. #10: Introduced the Promoting Free & Fair Elections Act Voting is one of our most sacred rights as Americans, yet today, more Americans than ever are concerned about the integrity of our elections. I joined my colleague Congressman Ted Budd to introduce the Promoting Free and Fair Elections Act to put an end to Biden’s Executive Order turning federal agencies into partisan voting operations. #11: Cosponsored the Protect Local Farms Act I’m a cosponsor of the Protect Local Farms Act to stand up for family farms, workers, and consumers. This commonsense bill stops New York's lower overtime threshold for farm workers from taking effect, and ensures our farmers can continue putting food on our tables! #12: Mobile and Virtual Office Hour Sessions My team has hosted a total of 31 mobile and virtual office hour sessions this year, traveling hundreds of miles to touch every county in #NY22 as much as possible. These sessions are instrumental to my commitment to ensuring the federal government works for YOU! Call my office today if you need assistance! #13: Led the Charge to Support Our #2A Rights In 2021, I led an amicus brief to SCOTUS with 175 of my colleagues in support of overturning New York's unconstitutional concealed carry law. This year, SCOTUS did just that, delivering one of the most significant victories for #2A advocates in more than a decade in the NYSRPA v. Bruen decision! I'll always fight to protect the right to keep and bear arms. #14: Continued Successful Monthly Seminar Series So far this year, my office has hosted nine different webinars with federal agencies to bring the tools and resources of the federal government directly to you! You can check out the full list of seminars here. #15: Making the VA Work Better for Veterans I cosponsored the Patient Advocate Tracker Act to give veterans and their representatives more control over their care through the Department of Veterans Affairs. I was honored that it passed the House by a wide bipartisan margin before being signed into law in September! #16: Women-Owned Small Business Program Transparency Act Passes House I co-led the Women-Owned Small Business Program Transparency Act, which passed the House with strong bipartisan support, to increase program transparency and oversight for taxpayers and business owners! #17: Holding China Accountable I cosponsored the AXIS Act, which passed the House this year, to hold the Chinese government accountable and to provide oversight over any support China gives to Russia for its unjust and unprovoked war in Ukraine. #18: Introduced the DIRECT Funds for Border Security Act Our Southern Border is in crisis because of the Biden administration’s failure to enforce our laws and fully support CBP agents. A record number of illegal border crossings just took place during fiscal year 2022--and the Biden administration still does not have a plan to secure the border! That’s why I introduced the DIRECT Funds for Border Security Act to redirect money from Biden’s army of 87,000 new IRS agents to Customs and Border Protection to hire and train more agents! #19: Introduced the Main Street Competes Act All too often, small businesses are shut out of important conversations in Washington about oversight and regulation. That's why I co-led the Main Street Competes Act to ensure small businesses have a seat at the table for critical antitrust enforcement discussions in Washington! #20: Casework Success Story with Medicare As I've said time and again, ensuring the Federal government works for you is among my top priorities in Congress. Check out this important casework success story, which demonstrates the important work that my team of expert caseworkers does every single day on your behalf! #21: Another Casework Success Story with TSA A hardworking truck driver from New York's 22nd Congressional District nearly lost his job because of the TSA’s delays in issuing his Transportation Worker Identification Credential card granting access to the Ports of New York and New Jersey. My casework team in Utica helped him finally receive this critical credential, saving his job! #22: One Last Casework Success with the Passport Agency My constituent services team recently assisted a constituent who needed an urgent passport appointment to attend his mother’s funeral overseas. If you need assistance with a federal agency, don't hesitate to call one of my district offices today! Have news or updates to share? Email me! If you have updates regarding events in the community or other news to share from across New York's 22nd District, please visit the "Contact Me" page on my website to share it with me. My team will try to include as many of your updates from around #NY22 as we can each week. ‌ ‌ ‌ Rep.
