Fellow Conservative,

Heritage Action’s mission is to hold elected officials accountable. With an expected Republican House Majority, there is more opportunity for policy wins in 2023, but not if Congress returns to business as usual.

The new majority must first make procedural changes <[link removed]> that will encourage more dialogue and participation in the drafting of legislation, and break down the power <[link removed]> that has been consolidated in the hands of a few people. Rank-and-file members need to have a voice.
House Republicans will have the power of the purse if they secure the majority. They should use that power to win on policy.

For starters, they should defund any program that is helping keep our borders wide open. As Jessica Anderson wrote, border security must be a top priority of the new Congress <[link removed]>.

But this power of the purse will be curtailed if Republicans allow Democrats to pass a big omnibus spending bill for 2023—essentially locking in Biden’s agenda until October 2023.
No Lame-Duck Legislating
Democrats are expecting to lose their House majority, and so will try to use the lame duck session of Congress to enshrine their policies for another year before they lose control.

Congress is facing a funding deadline in December. The correct policy should be to pass a simple, clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to extend that funding for just a few weeks, into January 2023.

In January, a NEW CONGRESS—elected by the people— will be sworn in. They should have the opportunity to set the agenda for 2023.
Every Republican in the lame duck Congress should be pushing for a short-term CR, not an omnibus written by Nancy Pelosi.
This Monday, call Congress <[link removed]> and tell them to pass a continuing resolution (CR) that funds the government until after the new Congress takes office.

The new fight to hold Congress accountable does not start in January, it starts now.

Thank you for all that you do to help make this nation great.
Sentinel Summit is here!
Heritage Action’s grassroots event is underway! Our team of sentinel activists are gathered in Fort Worth, Texas today to plan and prepare for 2023. We will hold Congress accountable, and continue the work of 2022 to pass bills to protect life, defend parental rights, end ESG scores, and improve our election laws.

On every one of these issues, conservatives have made great strides, but so much more remains to be done.
From main stage speeches to instructional breakout sessions, we covered some of the biggest issues of our time:

- Securing the border
- Fighting for parental rights and education freedom
- Improving the security of elections
- Putting Big Tech in check
- Ending the ESG agenda
- Stopping the advance of Communist China
- Honoring the sanctity of life
- Controlling spending and the policy agenda it funds

Heritage Action seeks to empower activists, and equip them with the tools they need to make a difference in their community. If you have been sitting on the sidelines, 2023 is the year to get more involved. We invite you to join our Sentinel activist program <[link removed]> and take a more active role in the conservative grassroots movement.
Thank you!

Jessica and the Heritage Action team
