Dear John,
While the election results on November 8th were not what we wanted, I was humbled and grateful to be the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s First Congressional District seat, and for by the effort all of YOU put into making our race one to watch. You stepped up when I decided to get in the race back in March. You stepped up when I asked you for donations to fuel this campaign. And, you stepped up when we needed volunteers to reach voters and get our message out.
The nationwide results for Democrats were clear: Voters care about preserving our democracy and they care about preserving our rights and our freedoms. We, in the First Congressional District, turned out to vote with faith and the steadfast belief that we deserve better than MAGA sycophants and self-destruction. We proved we are here to push back on the insidious nature of doubt in--and the undermining of--our institutions. We are here and we aren’t going away.
I entered this race in March because of the events that took place on January 6th, 2021. As a veteran, I swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against enemies, foreign and domestic. My fellow veterans served their country, as I did, because we believe it is worth the fight for Freedom, Democracy, Truth, and Justice.
As we move forward, our fight for democracy and our future continues.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one of you who contributed, knocked doors, wrote postcards, made phone calls, hosted community gatherings, and staffed polling locations. We could not have done this without you.
