A Veterans Day Message from Rep. Ami Bera

Dear John,

Veteran's Day is more than a moment to express our gratitude for the women and men who served in our armed forces. Today is an opportunity for our nation to recommit to the important work of caring for our veterans once they return home.

As a doctor who has worked in the VA system with World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam Veterans, and seen their sacrifices first-hand, supporting the men and women who bravely serve in our armed forces is one of my top priorities.

I'm proud to have supported our veterans in Congress by helping pass into law the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, historic legislation to expand health care access for over 3.5 million veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances during their time in service. I’m excited to share that the enrollment period for eligible veterans is now open.

Since 2013, my office has returned over $2.9 million in benefits for our veterans. We’ve also helped over 3,600 local veterans and service members retrieve backlogged VA benefits, health care, and cut through government red tape. We’re available to connect veterans with other resources they may need, including help finding a new job or with pursuing a college education.
