Dear john,
This Veterans Day, we show our deepest respect and appreciation for all those who have served our country. Thank you for your service.
In 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After four years of bitter war, the Allied powers signed a cease-fire agreement (an armistice) with Germany at Rethondes, France on November 11, 1918 to bring World War I to an end. The "war to end all wars was over".
One year later, President Widrow Wilson signed a proclamation proclaiming Nov. 11 as Armistice Day, honoring Veterans of World War I.
Later in 1954, the 83rd U.S. Congress amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting the word "Veterans."
November 11 became a day to honor all U.S. Veterans.
Thank you for so much. God bless our troops and God bless America.
