Friend, On Veterans Day, we reflect on the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans; those who have answered our country's call to serve and defend our freedoms. America is the greatest country on earth because of those who have answered the call to serve and defend our way of life. As Americans, it is our right to practice any religion we wish, speak freely, and fly our flag. My promise to every Iowa veteran is that I will be relentless in my efforts to ensure you receive the full scope of care and benefits you have earned. Whether it is for physical wounds, or emotional scars, you deserve the best care possible, and I will never give up on ensuring you receive it. That is my commitment to you. To our veterans in Iowa, and across the country: thank you. Thank you to those who have served our country. Today, and every day, we honor you. Best, Working for Veterans We promise our veterans that we will take care of them when they return home, and there is still a lot of work to do to live up to that promise. In Congress, I've worked across the aisle to improve veterans' mental health care access, hold the VA accountable, and ensure veterans receive proper care. I teamed up with the entire Iowa delegation on the bipartisan Sgt. Ketchum Rural Veterans Mental Health Act, legislation that expands mental health care access for veterans in rural communities. This bill takes an important step to ensure that veterans can access mental health resources that they need, regardless of their zip code. I’m proud that this legislation was signed into law by President Biden last year, but there is still more to do. I also supported the bipartisan PACT Act to help ensure veterans exposed to toxic hazards, such as burn pits and Agent Orange, can access necessary medical treatment. I will continue to reach across the aisle to ensure our veterans are taken care of once they return home from serving our country. Ensuring the Voices of Iowa Veterans are Heard Caring for our nation's veterans transcends politics, and I've worked with both Republicans and Democrats to ensure Iowa's veterans receive the care they have earned. Recently, Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Congressman Mike Bost, joined me in Iowa to hear directly from veterans in our community and see our VA system. I brought Ranking Member Bost to the district to ensure the perspective of Iowa veterans is strongly represented as veterans-related legislation is considered. Additionally, I joined U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough at the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic in Riverside, Iowa. We met with veterans who are participating in this innovative program and saw the benefits of the program firsthand. We promise our veterans that we will take care of them when they return home, and there is still a lot of work to do to live up to that promise, but I'm committed to fulfilling it. I will work with anyone who will work with me on behalf of Iowa's veterans. Services for Veterans My office can assist you with any VA-related issues. If you or someone you know is having an issue with the VA, or with obtaining your service records, please reach out to one of my offices, and we will do everything we can to help! For example, my office was able to help SGT Thomas Klug, a Vietnam veteran of Coggon, receive his missing service medals.
