It's 2020 and New Orleans DSA is planning its most ambitious year yet. As part of our Louisiana for Bernie campaign, we will be knocking thousands of doors, registering hundreds of voters, hosting monthly socials and educational events, canvassing and tabling, and traveling across Louisiana to meet with DSA organizers and Bernie supporters!
Since we launched our campaign in November we've been organizing weekly events: canvasses, phone banks, debate watch parties, socials and educational forums around different parts of Bernie's Democratic Socialist plan to win economic and racial justice.
We need to build a movement that can bring everyone in, because it's going to take all of us to win. Now is a perfect time to get involved!
New Orleans DSA is a 100% volunteer, member-run and member-funded organization. Just like Bernie, we don't take donations from corporations or billionaires. We are raising funds so we can provide food at all our meetings, pay for our office space, and run ambitious projects & campaigns.
Bernie Campaign Meeting Saturday 1/5 - 4 to 5:30pm - 2533 Columbus St
Meeting to plan January activities for the DSA for Bernie campaign! Everyone is welcome, whether you've been involved in the Bernie work since the beginning or you're just getting started. Snacks and childcare provided, wheelchair accessible building.
First Bernie Canvass of 2020! - FB event Sunday 1/5 - 3 to 5pm - Bunny Friend Park (1903 Desire St)
Canvassing to talk to neighbors in the Upper 9th Ward about Bernie's plan to guarantee housing for all, and promote our upcoming housing forum. No experience, training or supplies needed. We'll have snacks, sunscreen and water.
New Orleans for Bernie Social + Craft Night - FB event Friday 1/10, 7 to 9pm at WHIV Station (2762 Orleans Ave)
Learn about New Orleans DSA's campaign for Bernie and how to get involved. We'll also have art supplies so we can make buttons, banners and signs! Bring cold drinks, a dish to share, OR just bring yourself. BYOB. Family friendly event, wheelchair accessible building.
Crowd Canvass for Bernie's Medicare 4 All Plan - FB event Tuesday, 1/14, 5 to 6pm at North Galvez & Canal St
Wednesday, 1/15, 5 to 6pm at Louisiana Ave & Pyrtania
Thursday, 1/16, 5 to 6pm at Tulane Ave & Lasalle
Join DSA's nationwide Medicare for All (M4A) week of action to spread the word about Bernie's M4A plan, which would create free universal healthcare for all. No experience or supplies necessary, we'll start with short training. We will have snacks & water!
Why New Orleans Needs Bernie's Plan for Housing - FB event Friday, January 17th, 6:30 to 8:30pm at 3600 Desire Pkwy (Giving Hope Community Center)
Come learn about and discuss housing justice, New Orleans housing history, and Bernie's Housing for All Plan, which would protect renters, create national rent control, fight gentrification and end homelessness. Dinner and childcare provided, wheelchair accessible building.
