Dear John,
While it’s still too soon to know the full results of the 2022 midterm election, including who will control Congress, there were a string of major wins on Tuesday night that spanned the entire country.
Watch our most recent video to learn more about these victories, and why I’m left feeling hopeful about the future.
Pro-democracy candidates knocked off numerous election deniers in races for both Secretary of State and Governor in key battleground states.
John Fetterman flipped a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania running on a pro-worker agenda.
Reproductive rights were protected in all five states that had abortion ballot measures, minimum wage increases were approved by voters in Nebraska and Washington DC, collective bargaining rights were enshrined in the Illinois constitution, Medicaid coverage was expanded to more than 40,000 people in South Dakota, and on and on.
This is just a sample of the many major victories thus far — and while there are still many unknowns, one thing is for certain: progressives are the future. Why else would the GOP be pulling out all the stops to entrench their power?
America still has a long way to go. But it is far better and stronger now — more inclusive, more diverse, more dynamic — than it has ever been.
Remember this as we continue our work. The fight isn’t over — and it won’t get easier. But we can win. Tuesday was proof.
Thanks for watching,
Robert Reich
