All we have to do to save Earth is elect a democrat next November!

Think Progress (7/26/19) column: "Scientific reality makes clear that the only plausible way to preserve a livable climate — and hence modern civilization — starts with aggressive national and global cuts in carbon pollution by 2030. But political reality makes clear that such cuts can’t happen instantly — and that global action requires leadership from the United States. After all, the U.S. is the richest country in the world and the biggest cumulative source of heat-trapping emissions over the past century...That means November 3, 2020 — the U.S. presidential election — is the deadline for Americans who do not want to destroy the health and well-being of current generations, their children, and future generations. If Trump is reelected, the prospects for the necessary national and global cuts in carbon pollution by 2030 will be gone."

"If you want to see an official who acts as the science demands, look at Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, whose actions have distinguished him as a politician who takes the climate emergency seriously."

Why is Senator Barrasso Submitting to the Subsidizers?

AEA (7/29/19) blog: "This week brought the unfortunate news that Sen. Barrasso, normally a steady hand in energy policy discussions, has reportedly agreed to Democrat demands for new subsidies for expensive green dreams. The senator from Wyoming has apparently given the nod to include subsidies for electric vehicle charging stations in an infrastructure bill expected to be unveiled today. Left unclear is why, exactly, federal taxpayers should be on the hook for subsidizing the build-out of a retail network for a niche consumer product...Fundamentally, taxpayers should not be paying for private infrastructure. Many people enjoy the convenience of having a coffee shop on every corner, but it is not the federal government’s job to support the build-out of this caffeine infrastructure. Where there is a need for electric vehicle infrastructure, private companies can provide it. Electric vehicles should be no exception. Senator Barrasso shouldn’t let the Democrats inject their Green New Deal into the highway bill."

Go ahead, try and jack up mama's energy taxes. I dare ya...

The Hill (7/26/19) reports: "Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are introducing competing bills that aim to put a tax on carbon. The push to regulate greenhouse gas emissions come as both Democrats and Republicans face pressure from their constituents, and in some cases the fossil fuel industry itself, to regulate carbon emissions that lead to climate change.Sen. Christopher Coons (D-Del.), Rep. Francis Rooney (R-Fla.) and Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) all introduced carbon tax bills on Thursday that each take a shot at cementing the long tossed-around idea of a carbon fee. Those three bills join two other bipartisan measures proposing a carbon tax introduced earlier this year in the House and the Senate."

"Air travel for me, but not for thee." -Official campaign slogan of Buttigieg 2020.

The Daily Wire (7/25/19) reports: "South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is far outspending his Democratic presidential challengers when it comes to the dollars spent on private jet travel, according to an analysis done by the Associated Press...Only a month after announcing an exploratory committee for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, Buttigieg expressed his support for the Green New Deal, which seeks to phase out air travel and move toward net-zero emissions over a 10-year period...What’s more, the Green New Deal calls for 'totally overhaul[ing] transportation by massively expanding electric vehicle manufacturing, build[ing] charging stations everywhere, build[ing] out high-speed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary,' according to the website of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who crafted the legislation."

Reminder, a carbon tax is a tax on everything, no exceptions.

Toronto Sun (7/12/19) column: "What happens when theory and practice collide? The theory is that carbon taxes reduce emissions by penalizing people for emitting greenhouse gas. That is the theory. Tomato farmer Bob Mitchell, owner of Ottawa-based SunTech Greenhouses, is more concerned with practice. He releases CO2 into his greenhouse to encourage better production. The federal government charges carbon tax on that CO2 even though none goes into the atmosphere.
The tomato tree absorbs it, just like they taught us in grade school. That tax — along with the McGuinty-Wynne government’s decision to double electricity rates to subsidize unreliable and unneeded windmills and solar panels — inflated the farmer’s energy costs so much it became more expensive for Ottawa customers to buy his tomatoes than Mexican ones."

Someone learned the wrong lessons from 1984.

E&E News (7/29/19) reports: "Presidential hopeful Jay Inslee promised today he would prioritize environmental justice at the highest levels of government, including dedicating a White House office to it. The Washington governor laid out his plans to confront disproportionate impacts of climate change and pollution on minority communities this morning, including redirecting a White House office's mission to the task and implementing an 'equity screen' meant to prevent federal decisionmaking that would lead to unequal environmental outcomes for minorities...Many of the proposals in Inslee's plan are borrowed from state policies in Washington or elsewhere, including his idea to transform the White House Council on Environmental Quality to the Council on Environmental Justice."
