Dear John,
The truce between warring parties in Yemen expired on October 2nd with no extension. Full blown hostilities may resume at any moment in a country already facing the worst humanitarian disaster of our time. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have died as a result of the conflict and deadly blockade by the US-backed coalition of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
We can help put an end to this deadly conflict by ending US support through the Yemen War Powers Resolutions in the House and Senate. Momentum for this is building in Congress due to the worsening US relationship with Saudi Arabia, making now an ideal time to add pressure.
- Pressure Washington State Senator Maria Cantwell to co-sponsor the Senate War Powers Resolution (S.J.Res.56). Senator Patty Murray is already a co-sponsor.
- Pressure Washington State Representatives to co-sponsor the House War Powers Resolution (H.J.Res.87). This is particularly important for those of you who reside in the 9th district which Adam Smith represents. If your rep already co-sponsors, this form will send them a thank you note instead!
Double your impact by calling your Congressional Representatives.
Script: Hello I’m a constituent from [name the town you live in]. I’m calling to urge you to support the Yemen War Powers Resolution by cosponsoring HJ.Res.87/S.J.Res.56. The U.S. must finally end all unauthorized support for the Saudi and UAE-led coalition’s brutal war on Yemen. In addition to committing horrific war crimes in Yemen, the Saudis have not been good allies to the U.S. by refusing increase oil production at a time when Americans are suffering. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for taking the time to help end this brutal war.
In Solidarity,
Seattle DSA & DSA International Committee
