Thanksgiving Thank Yous for NJ-11 Veterans
This week I launched the “Thanksgiving Thank You” note program to collect notes of appreciation for our veterans. The cards will be distributed to veterans throughout the district in time for Thanksgiving. Last year we distributed over 3,000 cards to veterans across New Jersey through organizations like Community Hope, Catholic Charities and our local VFWs and American Legions.
I encourage all residents, especially students, to show your thanks and join us in writing a note to a veteran in our community.

Honoring Our Veterans in NJ-11
Standing with the Honorees at the Essex County Board of Commissioners Veterans Event
I had the privilege of standing with the 2022 Honorees at the Essex County Board of Commissioners Veterans Event. We are grateful for their service at home and across the globe. Thank you all for your bravery and for the sacrifice of you and your families. Special thanks to Commissioner Pat Sebold for nominating me, and to the County Commissioners for holding this event.
Honoring Morris County Veterans with the Board of Commissioners
Eleven veterans are being presented with distinguished service medals by the Morris County Board of Commissioners this year, including seven in person at the Commissioners’ meeting earlier this week. Willy Tolba, my Military & Veterans Liaison and a fellow U.S. Navy veteran, attended the ceremony to present Congressional Certificates to the honorees. You can learn more about the veterans being honored here. Thank you to all for your inspiring service and sacrifice.
The 13th Annual Essex County Veterans Day Ceremony
My team participated in the 13th Annual Essex County Veterans Day ceremony honoring County employees who have served or continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. Thank you to Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo for hosting this event and recognizing the value veterans bring to the workplace and the community.
Veterans Casework Office Hours at the Montclair YMCA
Thank you to the YMCA of Montclair for inviting my casework team to their annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast. We look forward to these opportunities to let veterans know about the ways our office can help with accessing the benefits they have earned, or any issues they are having with federal agencies. Great to see the YMCA staff and community members gathering to honor veterans from the local community, including 101-year old WWII veteran Samuel Debnam.
Learn More About the PACT Act
This summer, I was proud to vote for the Honoring Our PACT Act and see it signed into law. Burn pit exposure is this generation's Agent Orange and is absolutely devastating among the most recent generation of veterans. This law will make a difference in the lives of veterans suffering from cancer and other illnesses related to toxic exposure by streamlining the VA's healthcare and benefits processing for these diseases.

Attending the Morris Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build and Delivering Critical Funding
Last week Morris Habitat for Humanity kicked off its Veterans Build Week which will continue through November 11. They encouraged everyone to wear red and “Remember Everyone Deployed” and recognized the national initiative to provide housing, volunteer, and employment opportunities to U.S. veterans, military service members and their families.
The 42 Bennett Ave construction site will ensure that NJ-11 families, including veterans, have a place to call home. I am so proud that I secured $3 million in direct federal funding to help Morris Habitat successfully complete this project.
