** Take action with the Renewable Heat Now campaign this month!
------------------------------------------------------------
The Renewable Heat Now campaign, which AGREE helped co-found, is hosting an important Power Hour on Thursday, November 17 at 7pm. Register here ([link removed]) . This Power Hour will feature a lobbying skill session led by two experienced trainers from our movement: Alÿcia Bacon of Mothers Out Front and Shay O'Reilly of the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign.
Alÿcia has a masters in Africana Studies and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a minor in theatre. She joined Mothers Out Front in 2021. Previously she worked for the Adirondack Council as a Clarence Petty Advocacy Intern and the University at Albany as a Carson Carr Fellow. Alycia is a published multi- media artist and writer whose work has appeared in Adirondack Life magazine, Collect Effort Art Gallery, and Transitions journal. She’s a “Bunny mama” to Anarchy. In her free time she practices Krav Maga.
Shay O’Reilly (he/him) works as a Senior Organizing Representative for the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign, supporting volunteer members and supporters in NYC and the lower Hudson Valley to stop new gas plants and support renewable energy. Prior to this work, he developed programming at a center on religion and climate change; he has also fought against gas pipelines and supported campaigns for universal healthcare. He lives in Brooklyn with his husband, two cats, and toddler daughter; when not organizing, he enjoys birding, riding bikes, and sewing/other textile crafts.
This Power Hour will offer attendees the opportunity to hone our lobbying skills through team role playing sessions. The legislative session is fast approaching, and we need to get ready to talk to our elected officials. Register today ([link removed]) , and encourage your friends to join too!
Then, on Monday, November 21, we will be attending the Climate Action Council meeting in Albany. We must keep pressure on the Hochul Administration and the Climate Action Council for a strong climate plan that says:
* No hydrogen in buildings!
* No “renewable” natural gas in buildings!
* All electric new buildings in 2024!
Sign up here ([link removed]) to attend the next Climate Action Council meeting in person on Monday, November 21. Let's unite our voices for a strong climate plan!
You can also sign up to participate ([link removed]) in a special November 21 call-in and photo collage release. The Sierra Club created this opportunity for everyone to be seen and heard on the 21st. On the day of the Climate Action Council meeting, as we make our calls to Governor Hochul, images of activists from across the state will be posted on social media and emailed to CAC members and the Governor to “put a face to the call.”
With your help, we can hold the Climate Action Council and Governor accountable to provide NY with a strong climate plan without delays or false solutions.
