This week marks big wins for reproductive rights in our region and in many areas throughout the country. We know your support for abortion access made the difference in this election – your work, your voice, and your vote made it happen. Reproductive freedom proved to be a defining issue this year. We are the majority, and you showed that voters want local and federal elected leaders who will protect and expand an individual’s right to abortion and reproductive health care. The outcome of this election will allow local providers to continue to provide a full range of sexual and reproductive health care in our communities – including abortion – and serve those traveling to our region from other states for care.
As we await the outcome of several elections, including some key races in Maryland, we celebrate the victories that we do know and we celebrate you. Because you showed up and showed out, champions of reproductive health care continue to hold leadership positions locally. We look forward to continuing to work with elected leaders like DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to continue to fight to protect reproductive rights in Washington, DC. We also look forward to working with new leaders like Maryland Governor-Elect Wes Moore, who has pledged to make positive impact on reproductive health rights throughout the state. We are so happy to see so many candidates endorsed by PPADMV win in DC. Together with pro-abortion leaders and our volunteers, we will work towards and build upon existing policies and laws that will further expand access to reproductive health care and provide protections for patients and providers so that everyone can control their own bodies and futures.
