Hello John,

On this Veterans Day, we owe a deep debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country. They put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms at home and abroad. We honor their selfless sacrifice today and every day.

Honoring veterans, though, requires more than our thanks and recognition on holidays like this. When veterans come home, we owe it to help them transition back into civilian life and civilian careers. I’m proud that here in North Carolina, we’ve made that a priority.

Among other initiatives, I established the Governor’s Working Group on Veterans Affairs, which focuses on job creation, health, legal, and financial services for veterans to make sure that North Carolina is the most military and veteran-friendly state in the nation. We have both a large active military population and more than 720,000 veterans who call our state home — and we’re stronger for it.

We’re going to continue to ensure that North Carolina is a great place for military families and veterans to live, work, play, and raise a family.
