Hi John,

I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to represent the most engaged and civically-minded district in our nation! No matter who you voted for, I promise to listen to you, learn from you, and represent you with vigor and integrity. As part of that, I hope you’ll continue sharing your stories, ideas, and feedback – including constructive criticism! – with me in the years ahead. In the meantime, I invite you to read on for important information about redistricting, a recap of another two shifts “On the Job”, new Mobile Office Hours dates, and an invitation to join us for "Donuts with Dean" the next time you’re in Washington, DC!

Representing You

Every state is constitutionally required to redraw the boundaries of its voting districts to reflect population changes over the previous decade based on the most recent Census results. As you may know, gridlock at the state legislature led to an independent judicial panel redrawing our legislative and congressional districts, and in so doing, they removed the cities of Chaska, Chanhassen, and Victoria and added the cities of Anoka and Hopkins, as well as the remaining precincts in Coon Rapids, to the Third District.

It is important to note, however, that I will not officially represent this newly-drawn Third District until I am sworn-in to the 118th Congress on January 3rd, 2023. My staff and I will continue to provide best-in-class constituent services to those of you residing in Carver County through that date, and so I hope you will call on my office any time between now and then if you need assistance with a federal agency or if we can otherwise be of service.

On the Job at Heidi's GrowHaus and Birch's on the Lake

Minnesota is home to over 100,000 incredible women-owned businesses, and I was thrilled to go On the Job at one of them last week! Founded in 1979, Heidi's GrowHaus is is a greenhouse and landscaping company located in Corcoran that values sustainable gardening and proudly employs a team that is nearly 80% female. I helped usher in the holiday season on my shift, working alongside their talented team to flock spruce tips, shrink out summer annuals, and create winter arrangements. I left feeling inspired by their impressive mission, hardworking team, and commitment to environmental sustainability.

I was thrilled to join the team at Heidi's GrowHaus for an afternoon of arranging and flocking spruce tips in preparation for the holiday season!

The next day, I headed to Birch's on the Lake, a Midwest-style supper club and brewery situated on the beautiful shores of Long Lake. After trying my hand at making beer and labeling crowlers, I talked with Brewmaster Brennan Greene about the challenges and opportunities that come with running a successful – and highly regulated – business.

I had the chance to learn the science behind beer making, and even tried my hand at it during a shift On the Job at Birch's on the Lake.

Every shift “On the Job” is a chance for me to better represent you in Washington, DC - especially as a member of the House Small Business Committee. If you own or operate a hands-on business or nonprofit organization in our community and you’d like me to know a little more about it, please click here to offer me a job!

Mobile Office Hours: Veterans Benefits Information Session

As a Gold Star Son, ensuring that veterans and their families receive the benefits and services they have earned is among my foremost priorities – and I’m pleased to report that it was an eventful summer for Minnesota veterans! The signing of the PACT Act by President Biden and the Veterans Omnibus Bill by Governor Walz ushered in a variety of new and increased benefits available to those who have served our country.

I want to make sure every veteran knows about these and any other programs for which they are eligible and gets the information and assistance they need to apply. That’s why my staff is teaming up with local County Veterans Service Officers (CVSOs) to host a Veterans Benefits Information Session next Wednesday, November 16th. Staff from my office will join our outstanding CVSOs to present information about the new benefits established by recent legislation, lay out the application process, and answer your individual questions. Here are the details:

Bill of the Week

✔️ H.R. 7630, Childhood Cancer STAR Reauthorization Act of 2022

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Minnesota, and in numerous states nationwide. Cancer treatment is expensive, and a cures have yet to be discovered. Cancer has impacted my family, as it has too many, and I believe we must dedicate resources to cancer research. That’s why I’m a proud cosponsor of the bipartisan  Childhood Cancer STAR Reauthorization Act of 2022, which would reauthorize the STAR Act to fund childhood cancer research and programs through 2028, including pediatric cancer research, treatments, and resources for those battling pediatric cancer and pediatric cancer survivors.
