Hi John,
Results are still trickling in across the country but we know right now that we have a HUGE win to celebrate: Oregon voters officially approved Measure 114, the only gun violence prevention measure on the ballot this year!
Measure 114 will require a permit, safety training, and a completed background check to purchase a firearm. And it will restrict access to military-style high-capacity magazines.
This victory can’t be overstated, John. Measure 114 will save lives in Oregon and it sends a message to elected leaders everywhere that voters want action NOW to keep our communities safe.
This was truly a grassroots campaign. It was born out of anger and frustration in the wake of the tragedies in Buffalo, NY and Uvalde, TX. In the wake of those shootings, a coalition of teachers and nurses and law enforcement and faith leaders stood up to demand change. And this week, Oregon voters answered their call.
We are so proud to be part of this effort. Now comes the hard but essential work of making sure this lifesaving measure is implemented. We know there is so much work left to do and still many votes left to count, but this moment is worth celebrating.
Thank you for being on our team.
